H&H Mission Statement

At H&H Retrievers, our goal is to breed and train Labs that combine natural hunting drive with excellent temperament. We produce dogs that are intense and capable in the field, yet calm, obedient, and enjoyable to live with at home.

Built for the Hunt, Bred for the Home!

Our Story

We’re Dan and Rick MacQueen—two brothers, both with families, who started hunting with Labrador retrievers and quickly realized we needed a hunting lab puppy that could keep up.

Like many hunters, we found plenty of dogs that could go hard in the field; however, too many were difficult to live with at home. We wanted something better: a hunting Labrador retriever that could hunt hard during the season and settle down around our kids afterward.

This pursuit led us into Labrador breeding. For over 15 years, we’ve focused on producing Labs that balance drive, biddability, and temperament, because we believe the best dogs belong both in the blind and in the home. As a dedicated Labrador retriever breeder in Oklahoma, we ensure that every puppy we raise embodies these qualities.

Mercy

H&H’s Home Run (“Mercy”) comes from an exceptional, proven breeding. She is sired by 2019 NFC FC AFC Bayou Teche Swing For The Fence—a son of 2026 Hall of Fame X T For Texas II MH, out of 2014 NAFC FC AFC Texas Troubador (2023 Hall of Fame). “Foxx” is currently ranked #11 all-time as an overall producing sire, known for consistency, competitiveness, and winning at the highest level. Mercy’s dam is T For Texas II (“Thelma”).
Seven of the fourteen dogs in Mercy’s first three generations are National Field Trial Champions, making this a pedigree few can match. This breeding came together exactly as we hoped and Mercy is the result.

In the field, Mercy has all the drive, intensity, and “go” you could ask for. At home, she’s an outstanding companion. She is our most versatile dog, equally capable on ducks, upland birds, shed hunting, and deer recovery. Built for performance yet easy to live with, Mercy truly embodies “Built for the hunt, bred for the home.”

She has a long, athletic frame, an excellent training attitude, and a strong, confident blind-running ability that sets her apart.

Boone

This male is the definition of a proven, real-world hunting dog. He has logged well over 1,000 wild bird retrieves and has been hunted extensively in the conditions that matter most. He is steady, reliable, and consistent, everything you want in a finished hunting companion.

He has earned his Junior Hunter JH and SHR titles and is fully capable of advancing further. For now, his priorities are simple: hunting hard and living life with his family. His experience comes from days in the field, not weekends at tests.

In the field, he shows drive, intensity, and focus, yet remains calm and honest in his work. He handles pressure well, marks naturally, and delivers birds with purpose. At home, his off-switch is outstanding. He settles easily, lives well in a family environment, and is as enjoyable in the house as he is in the blind.

Pedigree-wise, he is backed by proven performance blood. He is out of Washita’s On The Warpath SH DN and SHR Sagecreek's Hot N Spicy DS, a combo that  produced dogs with strong hunting ability and excellent off-switches. His pedigree reflects balanced athleticism, trainability, and natural hunting desire.

Tikki

HR CCK’s Dreadlocks & Flip Flops (“Tikki”) came to us at five years old, right as we were getting more serious about upland hunting. She is highly experienced in both upland and waterfowl work and is an absolute hunting machine in the field. Despite her drive and intensity, Tikki may be one of the sweetest females you’ll ever meet. Children are all over her—and she seems to enjoy them just as much as they enjoy her.

You may not be immediately wowed by her pedigree, but you will be impressed by her ability. Tikki is sired by Hunter Retriever Champion Ajamss Marley Golladay MH, a grandson of FC AFC High Tech CEO and AFC Hawkeye’s Viking. Her dam is out of HRCH Arizona Trumarc’s Midnight Run MH, a son of Esprit’s Out of the Woods QAA NDL (“Tiger”).

Tikki has already proven herself as a producer, with offspring including HRCH Clark’s Frank The Tank SH. She consistently produces high-drive dogs with an excellent off-switch—true Hunt & Home Labradors.

Sky

We set out to find the most versatile pointing Labrador pedigree we could. That search led us to Kevin and Melissa VanCleave, who placed us on their waiting list for a breeding we truly believe represents the best of the breed. The sire is GMPR GMHRCH HRCH Rockerin Medicine Beau MH (2012 APLA Hall of Fame), widely regarded as one of, i f not the, most versatile sons of FC AFC Hilltop’s Hayseed.

He was bred to 4× GMPR HRCH Battlemtn’s A River Runs Through Hope, a daughter of AFC OTCH Goldstar Steadfast Nathan UDX OM2 and FC AFC 4× GMPR SPlab’s Rosie’s Elegant Ellie MH.

The result is exactly what we were hoping for: an exceptionally intelligent, high-drive female with a great personality and an outstanding off-switch. She represents the future of our program.

Misty

This female is a recent addition to our program and represents untapped potential rather than a finished resume. While she is still early in her hunting exposure and has not yet been hunted on ducks or upland birds, she has already shown strong natural ability, intelligence, and a willingness to work.

Where she currently shines is in shed hunting, where her nose, persistence, and problem-solving ability stand out. She works with focus and enthusiasm, showing the kind of natural drive and trainability we look for when investing in a young dog’s future.

She is still very much a blank canvas, one we intentionally brought in for development. Her temperament is solid, she is easy to handle, and she fits well into our Hunt & Home philosophy. With structured exposure and continued training, we expect her to progress steadily and develop into a capable hunting dog.

Not every great dog starts with a long list of accomplishments. Some start with the right mind, and the right attitude, and that’s exactly why she’s here.
